How far is Liwa Desert from Abu Dhabi and Dubai?
Liwa is located approximately 220km southwest of Abu Dhabi (about a 2.5 to 3-hour drive) and 350km from Dubai (4+ hours). Because of the distance, we recommend a full-day trip or, ideally, an overnight camping experience to truly enjoy the serenity without rushing.
What makes Liwa Desert Safari different from a regular Dubai safari?
Liwa is part of the Rub’ al Khali (Empty Quarter), the largest sand desert in the world. Unlike the smaller, crowded dunes near the city, Liwa offers massive red dunes (some rising 300m high!), complete silence, and an authentic wilderness experience far from city light pollution.
Is the safari suitable for children and families?
Absolutely! We offer family-friendly packages. For the dune bashing part, we can customize the drive intensity to be gentle and safe for kids (ages 4+ recommended). We also provide child seats upon request.
What is the best time of year to visit?
The best season is from October to April, when temperatures are pleasant (20°C - 30°C). Nights can be chilly, making it perfect for campfires. Summer months (May-Sept) are very hot, but we do offer specialized sunrise/sunset tours during this time.
What should I wear and bring?
Wear loose, comfortable clothes and sandals or walking shoes. Bring a light jacket for the evening, sunglasses, sunscreen, and your camera. We provide all camping gear, food, and unlimited water.
